Teacher, Albion Hills Field Centre
How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Under the guidance of their Supervisor, the Teacher is responsible for the development and delivery of education programs at Albion Hills Field Centre. Teachers must be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and coordinate specific education related portfolios within the division.
Building The Living City Strategic Plan (2013) identified education and community engagement as key objectives and mechanisms through which to achieve our strategic goals. Section 5: Foster sustainable citizenship, focuses on improving the awareness of and commitment to sustainability by the region’s residents.
This position demands an individual with strong facilitation abilities. They are expected to provide superior customer service to education stakeholders. Expectations outside of formal education delivery can include support for recreational programs, youth volunteer programs and specialized audience programming.
Major Responsibilities:
- Teach curriculum-based outdoor and environmental education programs at Albion Hills Field Centre to students on overnight and day field trips.
- On occasion, travel to teach at schools in Peel Region.
- Deliver virtual programs to schools.
- Lead the Albion Hills Field Centre teaching team to develop, update and improve lesson plans and ensure excellence in teaching practice.
- Develop and deliver programs and certifications for Specialist High Skills Major or other specialty programming.
- Act as a team lead for specific portfolios at Albion Hills Field Centre, including the Environmental Leaders of Tomorrow program.
- Mentor and assist in staff and teacher candidate training.
- Communicate with school teachers to plan overnight and day field trips.
- Under the guidance of the Supervisor, develop new program models and actively seek new delivery partnership models.
- Contribute to print and web content for school program marketing.
- Support facility maintenance and customer service such as leading meals, light cleaning, hosting clients/groups
- Monthly reconciliation of corporate Visa and regular Employee Expense Claims.
- Participate on internal committees such as Health and Safety, PD events.
- Be available to work evenings and, on occasion, weekends as required.
What will you need to succeed:
- Post-secondary degree in Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation, History, Geography or other related degree
- Bachelor of Education and Ontario College of Teachers certification;
- Valid driver’s license, use of a vehicle;
- Three years’ experience teaching within a school or outdoor education centre;
- Excellent communication skills in all modes (written, verbal, email, etc.);
- Computer literate, competent in cross cultural environment;
- Coordination skills (i.e. budget tracking, scheduling, reporting, planning);
- Ability to work flexible schedule;
- Classroom management skills in diverse environments;
- Outdoor recreation skills such as cross-country skiing, biking, snowshoeing, survival skills;
- Successful clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
