JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing leadership to the Technical, Compliance & Code team, in achieving company goals through planning, developing and implementing technical compliance capabilities according to local, national and international building codes and our client’s design specifications.  TC&C supports the entire Toro Group of Companies and has 4 main areas of responsibility:

  • Product Design & Development Collaboration – is an intrinsic part of the PD&D process for new product, providing consultation/review of new designs from Engineering, Thermal, Building Science and Code compliance perspectives.
  • Compliance & Code –
    • Proactively assesses the impact of changes in legislation and current industry best practices, providing solutions to key stakeholders (Estimating, Drafting, Breakdown, Production and Construction teams).  
    • Reactively assesses the impact of any component change to existing designs (such as substitution in approved paint, silicone, fasteners) necessitated by supply chain or other issues.
  • Technical Resource Centre – for all stakeholders, establishing consistency in resource utilization across the Group; will be a significant resource for roles such as Technical Advisor, Toro West.
  • External Advocate & Influencer Will divide their time equally between internal and external interactions, actively participating in committees like the OBE and Toronto Green Code, traveling to conferences, being influential in the industry and an advocate for Toro.

 

This role also supports Sales Teams cross the Group on all new projects, assessing the project for potential issues in the areas of Engineering, Thermal, Building Science and Code; evaluating the pay back required on the required solutions and initiates the request with PD&D for the solution.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Management/Supervision/Leadership:

  • Assess people (structural component) needs of the team to meet/exceed objectives.
  • Provide recognition and thanks to ensure an engaged team; creates an environment of trust.
  •  Provide ongoing assessment, development, coaching and mentorship (and discipline if needed) to build and maintain a high functioning and productive team.
  • Participate in Recruiting process from initiation of the request through successful onboarding.
  • Bring any employee issues to the attention of HR, to ensure they are addressed promptly.

Financial and/or Budget:

  • Operate within the department budget, including head count, materials, travel, etc.

Health & Safety:

  • Create and maintain a culture of Safety First, leading by example to actively promote a safe and healthy work environment within their team and the company.
  • Ensures our product specification sheets meet or exceed all safety and code requirements. 

Technical / Function-Specific:

  • Proficient, fluent and aware of Industry Code and Technical
  • Need to have practical proficiency in all technical areas – and be deep into Building Codes – and have the ability to translate in practical direction regarding fenestration contribution to the ‘total building’ (understanding the non-specific nature of new building codes; benchmarking of Total Vision Glass vs. Opaque Areas, R ratings, UV values, etc. )to give direction to internal and external clients.

Internal / External Customer Service:

  • The majority of Customer Service interactions will be Internal, collaborating with and supporting key internal stakeholders as listed above. 
  • The Engineering Team will have a significant component of their Customer Service interactions with External Clients (architects, engineers, project managers) to obtain information on project scope, RFI’s, etc.

Administration:

  • Ensure that all administrative tasks your department is responsible for are completed thoroughly and timely. 
  • Ensure all HR-related paperwork or tasks on Dayforce are completed accurately and timely. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY OPERATE IN THE ROLE

 

Education:

  • BA or equivalent experience, in Engineering, Architecture, Design or Building Sciences
  • Post Secondary/Post Grad programs in Manufacturing Management/Quality Management are an asset

 

Experience

  • Building Science, engineering and/or drafting experience is an asset
  • Experience with a BIM drafting environment is a plus

 

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE THE ABOVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to lead and build a high performance team
  • Read architectural blueprints and product BOM & SOP
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and best practices
