How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Camp Counsellor supports the daily operations of camp delivery to our Toronto Montessori school partner. The Camp Counsellor helps deliver and execute interactive indoor and outdoor events and activities such as outdoor nature-themed camp programming to our Toronto Montessori School campers ages 6-11, while monitoring campers to ensure their health and safety. The Camp Counsellor will be responsible to travel to 3 locations to set up and deliver camp programs.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and lead interactive and engaging activities and programs for camp groups of all ages and abilities.
  • Assist with safe check-in and sign-out of campers.
  • Provide supervision of campers.
  • Monitor campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents.
  • Assist in the daily preparation and clean-up of camp programs, ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment.
  • Clean, maintain and properly store all props and equipment.
  • Lead and prepare activities for before and after care camp programs.
  • Reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to senior camp staff.
  • In person communication with caregiver during camper drop off and pick-up.

What will you need to succeed:

  • Minimum of secondary school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Active and current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
  • One (1) years’ experience working with or volunteering with children in a group setting.
  • Previous experience supervising children.
  • Previous camp experience is an asset.
  • Experience delivering programs and interactive activities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organization, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of natural history, 19th century history, or environmentally related disciplines is an asset. (Location dependent)
  • Ability to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team.
