Under the direction of the unit head, the Junior Public Service Clerk performs a variety of public service duties including circulation, reader’s advisory services, and maintaining records related to the operation of library services to the public. Performs paging duties such as shelving, conducting inventory, and pulling specified items for holds or withdrawal.




1. Provides circulation services such as: register borrowers, check-out and check-in of library materials, resolve snags, place holds, receive payment of fines, and resolve or refer complaints.

2. Provides directional and reader’s advisory service to the public.

3. Sort, shelve and shelf read library materials and merchandizes branch collections as directed by unit head.

4. Run and reconcile request pull list and trace reports.

5. Pull library materials identified for weeding, as instructed. Process withdrawn materials and maintain branch book sale area.

6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
1. Completion of Grade 10, must be currently enrolled in High School.

2. Knowledge of customer service, library procedures and systems gained through previous experience or education and training.

3. Ability to learn and deliver reader’s advisory services.

4. Demonstrated ability to deliver consistent, high quality customer service.

5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public and staff and to work as a member of a team.

6. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

7. Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
Please note: The Junior Public Service Clerk position is intended for a high school student (preferably from Scott Collegiate) to gain work experience. Applicants that attend a high school other than Scott Collegiate, must live in the North Central catchment area. This is a term appointment to June 30, 2023.
