Reporting to the VP, Quality, and in direct collaboration with the Head of Cultivation, the Quality Assurance Supervisor will be responsible for the implementation and ongoing monitoring of the Quality assurance systems for medical and adult use cannabis in strict compliance with Health Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) and Cannabis regulations. The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for supporting the company’s Quality Assurance, production, maintenance and facilities departments. The Quality Assurance Supervisor MAY be QAP on site and would be responsible for finished product release for further processing and/or sale.
Role and Responsibilities
· Ability to work long hours and under variable weather conditions
· Development, implementation and revision of HEXO’s Preventative Control plan using HACCP approach including identification, validation and control of all CCPs and PCPs
· Development, revision and implementation of all SOPs through electronic QMS system related to quality and operations at the HEXO Cayuga site
· Development and performance of in process quality checks in alignment with HEXO Quality Management System and business needs
· Oversee batch record development/completion and performance of batch record review for release
· Sample collection for product sampling and analysis in addition to raw material inspection and testing in accordance with Health Canada Regulations and best practices.
· Perform moisture release sample and record all results in drying logs
· Review of lab analytical reports in accordance with batch record review protocols
· Ensures that procedures are followed, efficiently and consistently in cultivation and production environment.
· Ensures compliance with regulations and quality programs through internal auditing of quality systems by performing audits in production, facilities and maintenance for inventory, GPP, GMP and process quality compliance and collaborate with respective departments on corrective actions.
· Coordination of work to ensure the successful implementation of HEXO Preventative Control Plan/HACCP System and Quality Management System in pursuance of regulatory compliance and achievement of business goals. The Quality Assurance Supervisor will work closely with production, maintenance, facilities and shipping teams to ensure that product safety, compliance and quality standards are established, implemented and maintained throughout all manufacturing operations.
· Reassessment of Preventative Control/HACCP plan as required whenever changes occur that impact the cultivation, harvest, processing, packaging or storage of cannabis products
· Verification and validation of CCPs and PCPs including reporting and data analysis
· Provides support to ensure compliance of Change Control System, Complaints System, Validation Deviation Investigation Reports (DIR), including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA).
Other duties may include:
· Supervision of cultivation and/or quality staff as required
· Performs QA monitoring in all areas of HEXO’s production processes and communicates results to respective area stakeholders.
· Provides inventory assistance.
· Participates in investigation activities associated with problems or failures within the overall quality assurance systems, to analyze root cause, to propose appropriate corrective action, and to document with deviation reporting tools.
· Ensures accurate record keeping and cleanliness of QA work areas.
· Liaises closely with colleagues and provides required QC/QA training for all areas of the facility to ensure efficient resolution of quality related issues.
· Monitors process control and QC data trends and reports and non-compliances to standards to respective department stakeholders
· Supports the submission of Monthly Health Canada reports on inventory.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Agricultural, Food, Physical, or Biological Sciences preferred) is required;
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Cannabis including development and implementation of Preventive Control plans
· Agricultural experience and plant biology knowledge a strong asset
· Previous experience in a quality assurance required
· Detail oriented and self-directed in execution of tasks required;
· Strong critical thinking and leadership skills;
· Proven ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Applications;
· Keen learner, who continually strives to improve their skills and knowledge;
· Motivated team player with strong communication skills and attention to detail;
· Must possess a willingness to learn with a positive attitude
· Familiarity with Cannabis Act and Regulations is an asset;
· Must have the ability to obtain security clearance as per Health Canada Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations.
