What You'll Be Doing

  • Work on new and current formulations, conduct and support plant trials for new products and first production runs with both internal and external partners.
  • Work in close collaboration with a team of culinary professionals to come up with a set of standards and requirements for all ready to eat product development.
  • Key point person owning the translation of product development prototypes into formulas ready for mass-production runs. 
  • Coordinate, perform and record results of analytical procedures, including sensory evaluations and shelf life testing.
  • Work closely with culinary product developers to make recommendations on how to  improve shelf life and key sensory attributes of finished products.
  • Assist in the implementation of modified atmosphere packaging systems.
  • Develop and maintain finished product specifications and information.
  • Maintain and update raw material documentation, contacting suppliers as needed for updated information.
  • Evaluate current and new ingredients with respect to substitution and cost saving initiatives.
  • Attend new product meetings and work with the team in meeting product launch timelines.
  • Understand current CFIA labelling regulations, as they apply to food.
  • Review and/or update packaging label artwork for approval.
  • Revise & develop nutritional information and ingredient declarations for finished product labels.
  • Liaise with Quality Assurance and Customer Success to identify and resolve quality issues.
  • Supporting the product development team in the development and/or sourcing of new packaging formats for new products.
  • Supporting the product development team in the sourcing of new ingredients for new products.
  • Work collaboratively with all key stakeholders: Suppliers, Marketing and Operations to deliver business objectives. 
  • Working closely with the procurement team to source and select raw materials and packaging to support the pipeline of new products.
  • Manage the on-boarding of new suppliers and new raw materials into our Approved Supplier program.
  • Identify, participate in raw material and recipe optimization projects.
  • Tasting of recipe creations, which will require the consumption of meat products and all allergens.

What We Are Looking For


Your job duties and responsibilities may include developing food products that meet mandated standards, improving shelf life, researching new trends and ingredients, studying consumer feedback, and ensuring product packaging accuracy. You may also perform quality assurance checks on the manufacturing process.

 

  • Education: Degree in Food Science or Microbiology, or Food Processing Diploma
  • At least 2 years previous experience in a Food Manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience with modified atmosphere packaging systems.
  • Proficient in G-suite or MS Office including Google Sheets and/or Excel.
  • Knowledge of Food safety, HACCP, Food Labeling regulations.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and have good problem solving skills.
  • Results oriented, self-motivated and works well under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast paced and changing environment.
  • Be knowledgeable and passionate about the food industry.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development of commercialized food products in manufacturing environments.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts during trials.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to process.
