We are seeking an experienced Inclusive Education (Learning Support) Teacher, with a specialty in Mathematics and Science to join our Learning Support team at our Morven Campus. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, collaborative, inspirational, tech-savvy educator with experience working with students who have diagnosed learning differences, and who is looking to become a part of a vibrant teaching and learning community. This is a Permanent Full-Time position, starting August 26, 2022.
What you will be doing:
- Serve as a case manager for students who require Tier 2 and 3 support
- Create detailed IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) that outline student goals and ensure their implementation in the classroom
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate both formative and summative assessment data
- Maintain accurate records and ensure that students receive the required accommodations and support within the classroom
- Partner with external providers (e.g. educational psychologists, occupational therapists, vision teachers, and O&Ms) to coordinate in school support
- Collaborate with other members of faculty within the department in service to students
- Work in collaboration with the teaching faculty to create innovative, differentiated lessons and assessments to meet the needs of all students and one that embraces the universal design for learning framework
- Continuously assess the effectiveness of learning support interventions and manage change as needed
- Provide small group learning support, using an RTI model
- Work with students outside of classroom hours for tutorial support
- Build collaborative and effective relationships with students, staff, parents and the community
What you need:
- Bachelor of Education with experience and training in teaching students with learning challenges
- Master’s Degree or specific course work in Special Education
- Knowledge of differentiated and universal design teaching approaches
- Familiar with the BC curriculum
- Experience in the writing and implementation of IEPs
- Experience teaching or strong understanding of Grade 8 -12 Mathematics and Science
- Experience teaching students how to use assistive technologies to support their independence and learning
- Committed to creating and continuing an environment that values diversity and inclusion for all community members
- Proven ability to work adaptively within diverse teams of people
- Excellent interpersonal skills including a positive and proactive approach
- Strong problem solving and organization skills
- A passion for ongoing learning and professional development
- Desire to work in a team environment
- Certified (or in the process of becoming certified) by the British Columbia Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch
- Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada
