Core Functions

The Financial Agent is responsible for providing financial, administrative and clerical services in order to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations, in accordance with established procedures. 

 

Functional Responsibilities: 

  • Screen, review and redirect incoming and outgoing correspondence to provide prompt and appropriate action with respect to inquiries, concerns and issues. 
  • Assist the financial Technician with maintaining the financial databases by performing necessary data entry. 
  • Assist the Financial Technician with the review and validation of travel claims for external clients and enter information in the database.
  • Verify accuracy of invoices received from suppliers; cross-reference the invoices with the open purchase orders in the database.
  • Maintain a log of regular supplier invoices; act as a liaison with the Cree Nation Government Finance department to monitor the payment status of invoices.
  • Assist in the review of projects expense reports to facilitate funds payment related Tiny Homes. 
  • Ensure all work is done in accordance with established policies and procedures.         
  • Report any concerns of unusual and/or suspected misuse of resources. 

Interaction/Communication Responsibilities:

  • Assist the department with regards to required finance related activities.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all supplier files up to date and update supplier contact information.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date and confidential filing system for financial documents in order to ensure efficient retrieval of information.

Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing all financial reports including monthly financial reports when requested.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility. 
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma with additional training program in accounting. 

Experience:

  • One to three years of relevant work experience.

Language:

  • Fluency in verbal Cree.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Good judgment and proven ability to problem-solve.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Additional Requirements:

  • Typical office setting where there are no unusual physical demands.
  • Must agree to undergo a background check. 

The Cree Nation Government may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned requirements if a suitable candidate who is a JBNQA beneficiary accepts to follow a training plan determined by the Cree Nation Government as a condition of employment.
