About the Role:

Global News Toronto has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Assignment Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Assignment Editor, the successful candidate would be responsible for assigning camera crews and reporters to scenes/stories and ensuring events are covered. This position is part of the Global News team, which produces local newscasts 7 days a week in Toronto and supports network newsgathering operations. Note this position requires shift work including early mornings, evenings and/or weekends.

• Manage and assign reporters and camera crews to ensure stories are covered
• Work with Assignment Editor and Production Coordinator to maximize resources and newsgathering capabilities
• Monitor scanners and social media, make calls, chase guests for all platforms as required
• Work with radio and digital partners to streamline chasing and confirming of information
• Develop news sources to quickly confirm and break details
• Work with producers, management to ensure new and emerging details are put into broadcast and online
• Other duties as assigned

If you want to have the following...we want to hear from you!

• Post-secondary education in journalism related field
• Previous experience working in a newsroom
• Strong news judgement with an editorial and logistical mindset
• Experience or ability to use social media in a professional capacity
• Solid computer skills required - familiarity with Microsoft Teams. WordPress, Grass Valley, and Open Media are assets
• Written and spoken French language skills are an asset

• Strong problem solving skills, adjusting to changing priorities and objectives, and able to meet strict deadlines
• Must work well under pressure and have a positive can-do attitude 
• Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology
  
• Knowledge of field production techniques and standards, what it takes to put together television, and understand what is required for live transmission
