BD&P is seeking a Knowledge Management Lawyer to join its Business Law Group. The successful candidate will have current and broad experience in corporate law, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and securities regulation.
 
 

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Work with Partners and Associates in our Business Law Group as well as BD&P's Business Development personnel to identify, develop, and draft high quality and useful client-facing knowledge products and resources;    
  • Lead the development of strategies and set priorities to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the practice group with respect to corporate finance, corporate governance, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and securities regulation, working closely with Business Unit Leaders and other Partners;  
  • Create, develop, update and maintain forms, precedents, checklists, data points, toolkits, and other substantive content for the practice group, ensuring such content is continuously up-to-date, accurately recorded, and leveraged by the practice group;
  • Ensure that the practice groups' knowledge and practice resources are organized and easily accessible; 
  • Organize meetings of the Business Law Group for presentation and discussion of recent developments in regulatory matters, case law, and other relevant topics;   
  • Identify and lead initiatives for the development of education and training materials and programs targeted towards lawyers;
  • Contribute to ongoing knowledge management projects and initiatives; and
  • Work to achieve an annual target of 1600 hours consisting of billable work and substantive non-billable work.

 The ideal candidate will have:

·       A minimum of 5 years of client-facing legal experience with a focus on corporate law, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and securities regulation from a leading law firm with Canadian operations or other relevant in-house or industry experience;

  • LLB, JD, or equivalent;
  • Strong technical legal, analytical, drafting, and communication skills combined with the ability to use logic to solve complex problems, excellent organizational skills, and rigorous attention to detail;
  • Understanding of the business drivers and risks affecting legal demand for significant clients and targets of the Business Law Group to identify business opportunities and relevant topics for publications;
  • Excellent project management skills, the ability to balance competing demands, demonstrated good business judgment and experience working efficiently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset, with a strong interest in evolving best practices in legal and knowledge industries;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for face-to-face meetings and email/telephone communication;
  • Ability to deliver presentations and training in an engaging and thought-provoking manner; and
  • Flexibility to work both collaboratively as part of the Business Law Group and independently.
